Lent: A season to focus on your spirituality

KAD:14TH February 2018. It’s another season of hallowed forty-day period of sacrifice leading up to Jesus' death and Resurrection. These forty days are a wonderful time to allow ourselves to take up our crosses as Christ once did. KAD joins other Christians over the world to prepare for Holy Week by fasting, praying, and reconciling with the Lord. The special service was conducted today from 9:00 – 10: 00 AM at Lukajange Cathedral to mark the beginning of lent season.

We are reminded during this period to think about all the trivial things in our lives that shift our focus away from God. Many Christians use this period of time to remove the negative things in their lives, or giving up on something they like most for forty days. But why not do something positive, too, instead of just removing the negative? Resolve to be more mindful of others' needs, spend more time with your family, pray more, and forgive old grudges. It's a nice touch to this season, focusing on those that don't have anything to sacrifice in the first place.

It is a time of simplicity and solemnity. It is a time to reflect on your dependence on God's mercy and your understanding of faith. Take moments during this time to think about how you embody Christ's love.

“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness and undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house: when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh and blood”? Isaiah 58:6-7
