Church of Sweden Ensures Projects Funding to KAD
Church of Sweden ( C.o.S) has promised to continue support towards three Development Projects and two institutions run by Karagwe Diocese. This was revealed yesterday by Mr. Lennart Andreasson while meeting the Karagwe Diocesan management team at Karagwe Hotel, Kayanga. Mr. Lennart is the Programme officer for Eastern Africa at the Church of Sweden Head offices based in Uppsala in Sweden.The meeting was a climax of the three days visit by the E.A regional representative. During the two days tour of the E.L.C.T church activities within Karagwe, Mr.Lennart visited Nyakahanga Hospital and Bweranyange Girls secondary school in the Company of Assistant to the Bishop Dean Phares Kakulima. The Deputy in-Charge at the Hospital Dr. Patrick in a long brief told the C.o.S visitor that the institution is slowly managing to cope with the recent shake-ups which culminated into substantial loss of staffs. He said that the unit is also recruiting more Doctors and Clinical officers much as it is also loosing many of them. C.o.S contributed 9millions Tanzanian Shillings towards construction of an infusion unit at the hospital this financial year 2008.
Since 2004, Church of Sweden has been consecutively supporting Karagwe Diocese through its re-Afforestation Project, New life Project, Capacity building Project and various works at Nyakahanga Hospital as well as Karagwe Secondary school.
In his address to the members at the Kayanga meeting, the official gave hope of more assistance to Karagwe Diocese from C.o.S in the coming years. In the coming year 2009, over SEK 523,000 has been budgeted by C.o.S to assist Karagwe Diocese Development programmes. But all these assurances are conditioned upon continued abidance to the performance regulations that guide Project work for the Church of Sweden partners;
“Church of Sweden is interested in working with Partners who have good ideas, Implementing capacity, Reporting capacity, ready to fulfil C.O.S strategies and trustworthy”, Lennart cautioned.
Mr.Lennart also told Karagwe Diocese officers who included the General Secretary Mr.Kamihanda Erasto that C.O.S will effective next year support activities that fall in four main areas which include ;Quality and learning Programmes, Christian Interpretation and fellowship, Sustainable development and Democracy, peace & Security.
The dean Mr.Phares Kakulima while speaking on behalf of Karagwe Diocese thanked C.O.S for its commitment towards the partnership between the two Church organisations.
Earlier on, the assistant to the Bishop had sought for the officers comment about his field visit to the Project work and was told that it was “Inspiring”. However, he later on during the meeting called upon Karagwe Diocese to improve and further strengthen its accountability system.
