KAUCOACES will be part of the additional efforts by the church to compliment national initiatives in the area of higher education. Tanzania is said to be far behind among the East and Central African countries in terms of number of graduates in different cadres. As a result of this, there is a great potential that remains not being utilized due to the lack of skilled personnel. Churches in Tanzania are the biggest partner of the government in the education sector. They currently own and run six universities and their campuses. Churches that own universities are Lutheran, Roman Catholic, Anglican, Moravian, Baptist and Seventh Adventist. Muslims own and run one university in Morogoro.

The Karagwe Diocese decided to establish a university that will focus in agriculture and applied sciences because the national destiny lies there. More than 80% of national workforce has to do with agricultural sector in the rural Tanzania. But for some historical reasons, rural economy remains uncaptured which results in the present trend of urbanization in Tanzania. Formidable efforts are required to break the vicious circle of poverty in Tanzania and that has to do with intentional and costly efforts to arrest the peasantly economy. The workforce to do this must be well trained through university such as KAUCOACES. Of late Tanzania has only one university college of agriculture, that is Sokoine University.

The Diocesan commitment to the issues of justice, peace and integrity of creation compelled the synod assembly to choose the Center for Environmental Studies to be the pick of the KAUCOACES. Karagwe enjoys the location close to equator with the climatic conditions that need attention of the rest of the world. The center will focus not only in preparing skilled personnel in environmental matters but will provide space for researches that help in averting the current trends of environmental degradations.
